Trees, Bees, and Peas was started by registered dietitian and culinary nutrition expert, Sherri Pinero, MSFS, RDN, CDCES.
Sherri is a native Californian with ancestral roots that have shaped her interest in making her career about food. Her grandmother’s family were pioneers, riding over the Plains in a covered wagon from the East during the gold rush, before settling in California in 1840. Over 20 years later, they moved to the Santa Maria Valley (Central Coast California), where they became some of the original ranchers and farmers in the area. Today, her family continues to grow crops and work in food and wine production. Growing up in the ag capital of the U.S., she has seen beautiful vast valleys and hills with fields of a variety of vegetable and fruit crops.
Producing food for her family through gardening is also a hobby Sherri enjoys. This is something that was learned as a child when her mother sectioned off parts of the backyard to grow a variety of vegetables and fruits. She recalls fondly as a child, picking berries off the fruit-filled trellis with her friends. Sherri also learned the joy of cooking from her mother and grandmothers. The culinary traditions likely handed down from her great-grandfather who was a classically trained chef in Northern Italy, and who owned several restaurants in Southern California as well as acres of orange groves.
The combination of these early exposures to food from earth to table has inspired her to blend her passion in advocating for the most sustainably grown foods available, while also prescribing nutrition interventions that will promote a healthy body and planet.
Sherri has over 20 years of experience in providing group education and counseling individuals on dietary interventions to improve and manage various medical conditions (see specialties here). She became a registered dietitian to help people improve their health by using food as medicine. She has extensive experience in motivational interviewing, behavior change strategies, and helping individuals meet their short and long-term health goals.
